By now you’ve got baggies plus pieces sewn together.
Take the bag for Fabric One, Strip #1, which is 21/2” wide. Cut this into four 31/2” rectangles (21/2” x 31/2”) per block. If you are doing 15 blocks for a throw, you’ll need 60 of these. You also need to cut one 21/2” square per block, so cut 15 for a throw. Put this in a different baggie, marked Fabric One Squares. (I found I could cut two of the 21/2” squares at the end of each strip while cutting the 31/2” rectangles.)
Get the 21/2” x 31/2” rectangles from Fabric 1 which you just cut. You’ll also need the 21/2” squares from Fabric 3 which you cut last week. Sew the square to the rectangle along the 21/2” side, creating a 21/2” by 5” rectangle. You will need four sets of these per block, or a total of 60 for a throw.
Next, get out the blocks of Fabrics 1 and
2 which you did last week:
Sew one of the 21/2”
x 5” rectangles which you just assembled to the block, right sides together.
The 21/2” square of Fabric 3 is placed in the
corner of Fabric 2 like the following graphic shows:
The graphic shows the assembly wrong sides together to illustrate the placement of Fabric 3.
The next step is to sew another block of
Fabrics 2 and two to the other side of the 21/2”
x 5” rectangle. Once again, Fabric 3 is placed in the corner of Fabric
2 like this:
The graphic shows the seam wrong sides together to illustrate how the pieces are placed. When you’re done, you should have a block like the one on the right.
You will have left over rectangles from Fabrics 1 and 3 which you sewed. Save them for next week.
That’s all for tonight. I hope you
can return next week when we finish off our block.
