I’ve tried to pick out a quilt that is neither extremely hard nor simple. This quilt pattern is copyrighted. The owner has given permission to use this quilt in our mystery quilt chat, but the owner asks that you not pass it on. (Same rules as downloading free embroidery designs!) The owner's name and website will be revealed with the final clue.
I made my quilt as a throw, which would
give you about a 48” x 64” project, made up with 15 blocks and sashing.
The yardage which I’ve provided is based on a laprobe sized quilt and 44”
wide fabric. The quilt is made up with three fabrics, and you could
use fabrics from your stash to make a scrap quilt as long as you keep the
same fabric scheme in a block. (I would bag up cuts for fabric stash
blocks together rather than by individual cuts as described below.)

Fabric One is the lightest fabric and comprises over 50% of each block. Fabric One requires 13/8 yards; 21/2 if you want the binding out of this color. |

Fabric Two is a medium print, comprising about 45% of the block, and will be the focal point. Fabric Two requires 11/4 yards including sashing. |

Fabric Three is a contrast fabric, about
5% of each block.
Fabric Three requires 1 yard, including sashing. |
I strongly recommend that you pretreat
your fabric; I also heavily starch any cotton that I’m quilting to prevent
bias stretch and protect the fabric from getting stained while in progress.

The following cutting directions are based on using 15 blocks for your
quilt. Tonight we’re cutting the blocks; save extra fabric for sashing.
| Fabric One: | Strip #1 is cut 21/2”
wide. You will need 6 cuts with 44” wide fabric. Put this in
a baggie marked Fabric 1, strip #1.
Strip #2 is cut 57/8” wide, and you will need 4 cuts. Put this in a baggie marked Fabric 1, Strip #2. (Note: if you’re using fabric from your stash, cut the following amounts per block. Strip #1 should be 21/2” wide by 17”. Strip #2 should be 57/8” by 113/4”.) |
| Fabric Two: | Cut the strip 57/8”
wide, and you will need 4 cuts. Put this in a baggie marked Fabric
2.
(If you’re using fabric from your stash, cut this strip 57/8” by 113/4”.) |
| Fabric Three: | Cut the strip 21/2”
wide. You’ll need 4 cuts. Put this in a baggie marked Fabric
3.
(If you’re using fabric from your stash, cut this strip 21/2” by 10”.) |
